Laura Supports March for Babies

Twelve years ago, my husband Jason and I learned what loss of a child does to a family. We were blindsided by our daughter's anomalies at a routine ultrasound. We had two weeks to process the news that we'd lose her, figure out what we needed to do to keep her and me as safe as possible, and to say our goodbyes.

Since that time, I have written our story to share with countless others who have suffered similar losses. This happens more than we like to admit, and families everywhere need support: moral, emotional, medical, and financial. We need research to help bring more answers to the mysteries that often surround troubled pregnancies.

We were fortunate, after two additional miscarriages, to finally welcome our daughter Evelyn into our family. Pregnancy with her was not without it's troubles; in fact, it was almost a repeat of our time with Sophia. We fought hard, hoped for the best, and while she was born early with some health issues, she is now a happy, healthy, four-year-old. She started life out hard: born at 31 weeks 8 days, she was barely 3 pounds. After five weeks in the NICU, she came home and has graced our family with more love and quirkiness than we could have imagined.

Our struggles are ongoing as she continues to battle gross motor delays, and once again I reached out to others through my writing to connect with the many NICU families out there. During our time in the NICU, we witnessed many babies who did not have such happy ending as our Eveyn did.

We walk for our babies. We walk for all the families who have gone down similar paths as us. We walk for those families who have yet to take this journey.

"With nearly 4 million babies born each year, we have a lot of work to do to help them all. The funds raised enable March of Dimes to support research, lead programs and provide education and advocacy that truly makes a difference to families in our community and across the country. If you believe, that every baby deserves the best possible start, please make a donation to support this community effort" (or you can march with us and join Team Sophia and Evelyn!).

WE NEED TO UNITE, CONNECT AND FIGHT FOR FAMILIES

With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.

At March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.

Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
