Amanda Supports March for Babies

Most of you already know Lacey's story... At 12:37 a.m. on September 16, 2003 my niece, Lacey MaKenna Ivey was stillborn at 38 weeks and though her feet would never touch the ground she filled our hearts with love as we awaited her arrival. Lacey's death was the result of a condition called Vasa Previa. This is when the intramembrabous fetal blood vessels cross the internal os. It has a high fetal mortality because of the hemorrhage that occurs when these vessels are torn at the time of labor, delivery or when the membranes rupture. Vasa previa often remains unsuspected until this fatal fetal vessel rupture occurs. The reduction in the fetal mortality from this condition depends on its antenatal diagnosis. This condition occurs in about 3 out of 10,000 pregnancies. My March of Dimes March For Babies team is SHARE Atlanta ( They are a wonderful organization run by volunteers who have experienced a pregnancy or newborn loss themselves. They provide a support system for bereaved parents who have suffered a pregnancy or newborn loss. Their primary focus is on parental issues so healing can gradually occur. I participate in the March of Dimes March for Babies each year to honor Lacey's memory. Even though she is not here with us physically, she is here in spirit and there is not a day that goes by in which I don't think of her. Wondering what she would be like now. Our family has healed yet each day another family loses a baby and has to deal with the grief. I have raised money for the March of Dimes in the past but never has it meant so much as it does now. This time it is for Lacey. I would ask that you donate only what your heart and wallet will allow. What a wonderful feeling to know that our donations are helping to save precious lives! That's what the March of Dimes is all about - "Saving babies, together".

Every mom and baby deserve the best possible start

Two babies die every hour in the U.S. And about every 12 hours a woman dies as a result of complications from pregnancy.

It's not fine. That's why we March for Babies.

We march to end maternal death. We march for babies born too soon. We march for babies we have lost. We march for moms-to-be. And we march for health equity.

Join the fight for healthy moms and strong babies, and make a difference for families everywhere!
