Why I walk

Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely, which means that more people are likely touched personally by premature birth than realize it. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities. The funds we raise in March for Babies support research, including considerable investment in research done right here in Eastern Iowa, that saves babies' lives. We have personal experience with premature birth. Our son, Will, was born at 24 weeks. He struggled and fought for nearly 3 months, but eventually succumbed to the many complications of his early arrival. Our son, Edward, also came early, but he was strong right away and quickly overcame that five-week deficit and is now a 9-year-old LEGO fanatic. Daniel, who turned 7 in January, also came early, but he, too, has been healthy and is growing strong. We got involved with March of Dimes because we don't want other families to have to experience what we have. The best way to do that is to raise funds for research into the causes of prematurity. Please join us in the fight by walking, sponsoring our walk or simply offering support.

Your gift matters

Funds raised in March for Babies support research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And they will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.
