In 1980 a partnership was developed between Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and March of Dimes through the Project Alpha Program. This was done to to reduce teen pregnancy and bring about sexual awareness in young African American males. More recently, this partnership has help to bring awareness to the fact that 1 in 8 babies are born prematurely in the population as a whole while 1 in 6 are born prematurely in the African American community. Often premature babies are faced with a host of health issues as infants and throughout their lives. Money raised here is used to educate the public on the need to bring babies to full term and to assist families that must deal with these challenging health issues. The Gamma Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha team has joined thousands of compassionate teams across the country that support March for Babies. Support us in the walk that helps all moms and babies. In addition to the issues stated above, money we raise for March for Babies will help: ...support all important research for babies born too soon or with birth defects ...educate women on things they can do to increase their chances of having a healthy baby ...provide comfort and information to families with a newborn in intensive care ...push for newborn screening and health insurance for all pregnant women and children. Please make your tax deductible contribution now. The babies and families thank you in advance!
