Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

Meet Logan Marie

Jessica and Jason Fernandez’s daughter Logan Marie was born January 5th, 2014 at just 25 weeks weighing 1 pound 12 oz and 13 inches long. Their first child was born with 10 tiny fingers and toes, a beautiful button nose, and even some dark hair on her little head. She was immediately rushed in to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Because of research and medical advances supported by the March of Dimes, Logan was kept stable and comfortable by the wonderful doctors and nurses. After many test Logan was cleared of any brain hemorrhage, but Doctors had discovered a hole in her heart and a blockage in her intestines. About 2 weeks in the NICU, Logan had a substantial set back. In quick reaction her doctors and nurses did everything they could to keep her thriving. Once she received doses of steroids and antibiotics, she picked up and began improving. Logan was eventually diagnosed with medical necrotizing enterocolitis, chronic lung disease, and her patent ductus arteriosus was still open. She received countless treatments in her 95 day NICU stay. Her parents are confident that without the amazing strides of the March of Dimes and God, Logan would not have made it. Today, Jessica and Jason are so grateful for the research and medical advances supported by the March of Dimes. This was Jessica and Jason's first pregnancy. It was, by all accounts , a normal pregnancy until they went in at 18 weeks for an ultrasound. Jessica and Jason copiously believe had it not been for strides in preventative medical measures supported by the March of Dimes, they would have lost Logan. After reading about the March of Dimes’ work with prematurity, the Fernandez’s decided they have to get involved. Logan was released from the NICU in March of 2014 and walked in her first March of Dimes’ fundraiser in April. Together with their friends and family, they strive to raise awareness and money. Jessica and Jason’s passion and dedication run deep. Their hope is that one day; NO parent will have to endure the anguish they went through, or worse, the pain of losing a child. Please consider helping to raise awareness for prematurity and Funds to support research for healthy pregnancies and babies. You can support them by joining a local Virginia Chapter March for Babies and walk to strengthen the mission that works for the good of all babies.
