Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

Isabella Medici

Kelly and Tony Medici were pleased to find out they were pregnant and due with a New Year's baby on January 1, 2013! On their 18 week anatomy scan, they were pleased to find out they had been blessed with a little girl! At that same appointment they also found out that their little girl Isabella had enlarged brain ventricles. After some further testing the doctors found that Isabella would be born with a neural tube defect known as spina bifida and a brain condition known as hydrocephalus. Not knowing what this meant for their little girl once she was born, they began to play a waiting game until she was born. On December 26, 2012 Isabella Sophia was born via c-section to a team of NICU nurses and neurosurgery staff. The Medici family could see their daughter, but were unable to hold her when she was born. The next day, Isabella endured a 5 hour surgery to have her myelomeningocele repaired. Five days after being born, Kelly and Tony were finally able to hold their daughter for the first time. On January 3, 2013 Isabella had another surgery to implant a shunt in her brain to help with cerebral spinal fluid that was collecting and causing swelling. Finally, on January 7, 2013 the Medici family were able to bring Isabella home. Today, Isabella is seen every six months at a spina bifida clinic and has MRIs, ultrasound checkups and a yearly spinal x-ray. The Medici family is happy to announce that Isabella was able to take her first steps on July 19, 2014 at close to 19 months old. The Medici family is excited to be the 2015 Ambassador family for the Northeast/Pocono Region and join in the fight to help all babies to be born healthy.
