Meet Autumn
Autumn’s journey began over a year ago when she was born at 25 weeks gestation weighing only lb 4oz. She was delivered by emergency C-section and was sent straight to the NICU at Roanoke Memorial immediately after she was born.
My husband and I had been trying to conceive for over a year and when we found out that we were pregnant with a little girl we never thought the outcome would be what it was. The day that Autumn was born was like any other, I had worked that day, and on my way home I began feeling a dull pain in my side. I was worried, so I called my mother in law and she suggested I go to the hospital. I met her at Franklin Memorial Hospital and was basically sent immediately back to Roanoke Memorial to deliver. When I arrived at Franklin Memorial my blood pressure was extremely high, I had a large amount of protein in my urine, and my liver had begun to swell. I was suffering from Preeclampsia and the only way for Autumn and I to survive was to deliver her.
Autumn spent 86 days in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, because of her early delivery she was diagnosed with Chronic Lung disease. She was discharged on January 18th 2014 with Oxygen and an apnea monitor. By the grace of God our little miracle grew stronger every day. I am still amazed at how far she has come. Autumn currently receives physical therapy monthly to help improve her gross motor skills. She is a true testimony of the power of God, and the astonishing work that is done each day by the nurses and doctors at the Roanoke Memorial Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I can’t thank the team of doctors and nurses enough for all the love, care and support that they offered not only to Autumn but to our family as well.
