Dear Swedish Caregivers,
Supporting community partners that raise health awareness, bring health education to underserved communities and fund life-saving research is something that Swedish holds near and dear. One such partner is the March of Dimes and the March for Babies walk that takes place in nearly 300 communities nationwide each year and locally on May 4th at the Woodland Park Zoo.
I invite you to get involved by participating in one or all of the following ways:
In Washington, over 83,000 babies are born every year and the work of March of Dimes touches each whether born healthy, premature, with a birth defect or other health complications. Within these 83,000 babies, 7,124 babies are born prematurely, 5,512 are born with low birth weight, 2,697 are born with a birth defect and 400 do not make it to their first birthday. Pricilla Edmonds, March of Dimes Ambassador for 2023 and mother to baby Mae who was born at 25w3d to sudden onset pre-eclampsia and spent 127 days in our NICU states:
“Our family was so blessed to have the care and constant support of the incredible doctors, nurses, specialists, and staff at Swedish. They took the time to help us understand what was happening and equipped us to advocate for our daughter, and they provided additional support to our family as we navigated our long journey in the NICU."
It is for families like this, and thousands of others, that we continue to partner with the March of Dimes and I hope you will join me in supporting this cause.
